The website agamben.pl is meant to be one of the most important parts of PROJECT AGAMBEN organized by Political Critique Club in Poznań in cooperation with Questions of Boundaries Research Group at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The site is destined to distribute all information and substantial content related to the PROJECT.

Our final objective is to create considerable Internet library dedicated to Giorgio Agamben’s work. We are going to publish regularly new materials such as texts, audio recordings and videos of lectures held within the PROJECT, Polish translations of texts of and on Agamben, reviews of books concerning Agamben’s philosophy as well as links to various related Internet sites.

Subsequently some materials will be translated into English. However, we invite you to participate in our enterprise and to contribute to the site with contributions written in English, German, French or Italian.

PROJECT AGAMBEN

The project consists of three components:

   1. Academic seminar for advanced students held in Poznań
   2. Cycle of lectures
   3. Lectures in various cities in Poland

1. Giorgio Agamben – Sovereignty, law and bare life

Academic seminar conducted by Łukasz Musiał, Ph.D. (Questions of Boundaries Research Group/Institute of German Philology, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań). The objective of the seminar is extensive and contextual reading of „Homo Sacer. Sovereign power and bare life”, the book authored by Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben whose thought remains still underrepresented in Polish philosophical discourse. The analysis will comprise all of the most important concepts in Agamben’s work which is situated in the zone of indistinguishability between typical philosophical questioning (ontology, aesthetics) and the problematic of politics and literature. We are going to enrich our interpretation by means of close reading of several texts of and on Agamben not published in Polish yet as well as contributions of authors who have substantially influenced the formation process of Italian philosopher’s thought, i.a. Martin Heidegger, Michel Foucault, Walter Benjamin, Carl Schmitt and Franz Kafka. The seminar is to be held in summer semester 2009. Participants: students and Ph.D. students. Unlike the lectures, the seminar is intended for students with considerable knowledge of Agamben’s philosophy.

2. Cycle of lectures

In academic year 2008/2009 about sixteen lectures dedicated to various aspects of Giorgio Agamben’s philosophy will be given at Adam Mickiewicz University.
